Construction preview of the new Scene75 in Milford

Construction preview of the new Scene75 in Milford

If you live in the Milford / Miami Township area, like we do, you’re probably familiar with this sight: the old Kmart. You may have heard that a new indoor entertainment center is going to be opening soon in the old Kmart building. Although it doesn’t look much different on the outside, there have been plenty of changes happening on the inside. I was invited as part of the media to their Hardhat Press Tour and got a sneak peek at what the finished center is going to look like. As a member of this community, I’m excited about it and am happy to share the pictures. This is Jonah Sandler, the Founder and Chief Entertainment Officer of Scene75. This is the second location of Scene75; the first one is in Dayton. The Dayton location is the largest indoor entertainment center in the country. The new location in Milford is about 15% smaller. Jonah gave us a tour of the facility and showed us around. When your first arrive, you purchase a game card. As you play, credits are deducted from your card. If you don’t use them all, save your card for another visit and reload as necessary. Scene75 will have two different glow-in-the-dark mini golf courses. An artist is currently working on painting murals on the walls. One course has an Underwater Adventure theme. The theme of the second course is The Immortal Jungle which has an Avatar-like feel. This next area will be the X Rider 4D Theater with special effects like wind, bubbles, and snow. I think my 17-year-old son is going to like this next one. The...

Book update: World’s Largest Horseshoe Crab

UPDATE (7/16/15): We found the crab! It is now owned by Old Days Vintage Campers in Hillsboro. It had to be taken apart and moved in pieces and is in the process of being reassembled. We’ll post another update when it is ready for viewing. Original Post (7/9/15): We have some disappointing news to report: the World’s Largest Horseshoe Crab (page 179 in our second edition) is no longer in Blanchester. The property was sold and the new owners didn’t want the crab. We have been attempting to contact the former property owner to find out if it is on display elsewhere. (We heard that it might have been moved to Hillsboro, but don’t know any details.) If you have any information about its current whereabouts, please let us...

Day Trip Idea: Richmond, Indiana

Last summer we had the opportunity to go on a two-day, one-night adventure to Richmond, Indiana. Although there was plenty to keep us busy for days, Richmond makes a great day trip because it’s less than a 90-minute drive from Cincinnati. Here are some ideas for things to do: Joseph Moore Museum is a natural history museum on the campus of Earlham College with free admission. It has an Egyptian mummy, giant prehistoric mammals, and lots of hands-on exhibits. The museum director is also a mom and she knows what kids like. Wayne County Historical Museum fills eight buildings with all kinds of interesting artifacts including an early airplane that was manufactured in Richmond.  This one is better for older kids because there isn’t anything hands-on.   Another interesting stop is the Levi Coffin House which was considered the Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad. Over 2000 fugitive slaves came through the house. You can crawl into one of the hiding spots.   The Visitor’s Bureau does a great job of pointing out fun little stops. Stop at the Welcome Center to pick up information on three different trails they offer. The Chocolate Trail passport allows you to pick up free samples of things like brownies and chocolate ice cream as you’re going around town. The Enchanted Fairy Trail tells you where to look for tiny fairy dwellings in shops all over the city. A fossil passport program tells you where to seek out fossils. Our favorite spot was Thistlethwaite Falls where the kids had a blast wading in the water after they finished looking for fossils. If you...
